Pet Grief Support

“The house feels so empty.”

Our beloved companion animals are so much a part of the family – in some cases, our only family - that it can be a profound loss when they come to the end of their life, or when we are separated for another reason.

There is no hierarchy where grief is concerned – the intensity and duration of our sense of loss and grief is often linked to the depth of bond shared between two beings, whether human or companion animal.

Yet so often society doesn’t recognise the depth of grief that the loss of a pet can cause. Perhaps even those close to us don’t understand if they haven’t personally experienced that depth of bond with an animal.

At Compassion Waves Partnership we recognise companion animals as equal family members; we honour the unique value that your pet’s life held and understand how hard it can be to bear the weight of their loss.

This can especially be the case when:

  • Your pet was euthanised to prevent suffering
  • Your pet went missing or was lost to you in traumatic circumstances
  • You had to rehome a living pet for reasons in their best interests

You don’t have to carry it alone.

Trained specifically in pet grief support, we offer a gentle, compassionate and personalised space to explore how the loss of your companion animal may be affecting you emotionally, physically and socially.

You’ll be guided by our certified grief coach, Joanna, through the six-session Life After Loss programme, underpinned by The STILL Method framework.

Internationally recognised, this approach provides a clear pathway to start processing your experience at a pace that feels safe.

Together, we’ll explore the Dual Process of both remembering and re-engaging - gradually exploring, in your own time, how you might find your way towards a life after loss that feels meaningful to you.

Your coach can work with you either one-to-one or in a group, online or in-person (Kent Coast and London).

Our training is accredited by the ACCPH (Accredited Counselling, Coaching and Psychotherapy Fellowship) and IPHM (International Practitioners of Holistic Medicine), and includes The CPD Standard’s Office accredited Pet Bereavement Support Course, delivered by Blue Cross.

Pet euthanasia support

Euthanasia is a positive, caring and responsible way to prevent your animal loved one suffering and yet it can be so painful a burden to bear. Where possible, we offer one-off and out-of-hours online emotional support to those who are anticipating making the difficult decision to have a beloved pet euthanised, or who require grief support afterwards. Please contact us to discuss availability. Pricing will vary depending on the circumstances.

Supporting children through the death of a companion animal

We offer one-off coaching sessions to parents who want to be well prepared to support their child or children through the death of a beloved family pet, either before the event where it is expected or afterwards in response to a more sudden loss. Especially when this is your child’s first experience of the death and loss of a loved one – and recognising the loss of the companion animal is likely to be painful for you too - it would be our privilege to help support you and your children to navigate their grief journey.

Supporting your remaining pet in their grief

We offer one-off coaching sessions to those who want to be well prepared to support their surviving pet through the death of their animal companion, either before the event where it is expected or afterwards in response to a more sudden loss. Whether smaller household animals, such as a dog or cat losing a fellow dog or cat within the same family, or a larger animal such as a horse or pony losing a stable mate or field mate, we can sensitively guide you on how to support them through the transition, recognising the loss is likely to be painful for you too.

When you feel ready to book a free call, we’ll have a gentle chat over an online cup of tea or coffee, or by phone if you prefer.

You can share your situation in your own words, ask questions and explore whether our coaching feels like the right fit for you, with no pressure or expectations.

We’ll be glad to hear from you whenever that feels right for you.
